Faith E-News: We Are Called Out and upcoming sermon series

December 26, 2022

In our parable, the rich man was worried about saving his brothers from suffering but he was not ever empathetic toward Lazarus. Even when he saw Lazarus was no longer suffering but treated as a son of Abraham, the rich man still couldn't really see Lazarus. Instead, he appealed to Abraham to order Lazarus to serve him. The entitled rich man ironically expected poor Lazarus to give up his riches in heaven to comfort him. When we look at the other scriptures for Sunday, we are given warnings about being self-indulgent. God watches how we use our blessings and calls us to a richer life in sharing with those outside our door. Come to worship to ask God for help with seeing who is truly poor and rich.

"To Go Bags" Project This Sunday

In Jesus' parable, we are confronted by a widow who continues to ask a reluctant judge for justice. We are reminded that persistence pays off even when it is pitted against the indifference of the powerful and the barriers of the system. We come to worship, grateful for our judge. We know God cares to hear from us and so we pray with persistence in his faithfulness.

Reminders: All Saints Sunday and Daylight Saving Time Ends

In our scriptures, we are reminded that we have hope. We have an inheritance in God's kingdom and we are witnessed to his power. As we celebrate the saints who are now blessed by seeing this in full, we come to worship with confidence in the love of God who offers us comfort when we mourn and joy after tears.
