This Sunday, we see Jesus after forty days in the wilderness. He is weak and hungry and yet he doesn't misuse his power to serve himself. He doesn't misuse his power to show off or impress others. He doesn't give up his power to gain what he already has. Come to worship to focus on God and put him first.
Hide yourself in God, so when someone wants to find you they will have to go there first.
Our Gospel lesson today features a quiet meeting between Jesus and a Pharisee, Nicodemus. Jesus is willing to answer questions from anyone, even when they are given in the dark. Let's worship with the grateful trust of those who can approach our Lord no matter who or where we are.
Transfiguration Sunday reminds us that worship is a holy experience of meeting God. We are blessed by his willingness to let us see his face in Jesus. On one side, we might follow past laws and on the other, we might follow the mystery and wonder of God's future promises. Come to worship centered on Jesus, greater than what he gives us and more than we can imagine.
